The local supermarket in Joyeuse
My new shoe had rubbed my little toe and made it bleed slightly. As we wanted some things from the supermarket, I thought that I would get some sticking plasters to keep the blood off the bedclothes. I couldn't find the plasters, so I asked one of the women assistants. She looked completely blank - I could have been speaking chinese for all the impression I was making. Then I said "Ma chaussure a frotte mon pied" (my shoe has rubbed my foot) her face lit up and she took me straight to the shoe polish.
